Since the renaming of the museum (it was previously the Canadian Museum of Civilization), there has been an overhaul of the flagship Canadian History Hall, which, in my opinion, is absolutely worth revisiting. The Hall has been almost completely redone to be a more representative and inclusive depiction of this country. Of note is the conscious emphasis on reconciliation -- the history, impact, and cultural identity of Indigenous populations are highlighted from start to finish. I thought I would just be reliving my grade school social science classes, but the exhibits actually included a lot of (more shameful) parts of Canadian history that I was surprised, but grateful, were finally being brought to light. Beyond the political motivations that may have led to the modifications to the exhibits, the museum remains a visual feast filled with dynamic videos, dioramas, art, and activities that are surely engaging to visitors of all ages.

Nicest people I met all tripCrossing the river from the east and being presented with this beauty of a building is quite the site. The curving roof and sides of the building are made even better as you stare at the windows planted between the "folds" of the building. We walk in, check out the front desk and are greeted in french and english by a very friendly, very happy employee with tons of information. We weren't sure if we were going to actually go in the museum but this woman actually ended up being the reason we went in.The special museum piece at the time was medieval Europe and it was really really awesome. Lighting was superb and the layout was great. The recent history section (section 1, 1700-1912) was really great and it was cool to see how Canada came to be and its relationship with America. What a great tour! The cafe filled my water bottle for me (so needed before more biking) and every person we talked to was very kind.If you're in Ottawa and you want to go to one museum, this one has everything for kids and parents alike. Highly recommend.

Great place to go if you enjoy museums and history. My favourite was the Halls. It was breathtaking and the architecture was awe inspiring. I would definitely go again. Be sure to visit the gift shop. They have some really great souvenirs at pretty good prices

We didn't make it all the way through the museum (mainly the native exhibit) but there were quite a few interesting and unique pieces. With that in mind, you need to do some research on the exhibits before going here as the explanations for the artifacts are quite vague in some cases and don't give much more detail than their origin or excavation site. I personally prefer museums that are more interactive in nature which this museum does not contain a lot of but does offer several opportunities to stop to watch a short film or listen to an audio recording. Overall a unique place to visit, just across the river from Ottawa.

One of the best museums of Canada.Displays are great. Have taken utmost care to display arts, crafts, weapons, etc. of aboriginals. Aboriginals pavilion is worth visiting. Also displays of various countries are knowledgeable and represents specialty of that country which is enjoyable more by kids and adults both.
